Job Title: Architectural Technologist

Purpose 

The Backcountry Hut Company specializes in architecturally-designed modernist recreational structures that celebrate the empowering concept of communal self-assembly. Our award-winning, sustainably-designed collection of prefabricated, flat-packed building systems can be configured to meet a variety of uses, landscapes, and lifestyle needs. 

We were founded in 2015, and our team has grown steadily to include talented individuals that specialize in design, building, operations, and sales. Our goal is to add a full-time Architectural Technologist to our team to support ongoing growth across North America.

This newly-created intermediate role will be responsible for carrying out the duties and responsibilities listed below, as well as emerging support functions in Architecture, Drafting, Feasibility and Design. There is potential for the position-holder to co-create as-yet-undefined aspects of the role as it grows and evolves over time. 


Role

  • Produce and develop detailed drawing and detail packages for projects.

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of BHC’s internal and marketing documentation, including:

    • Internal support documents

    • Catalogues

    • Layouts

    • Marketing drawings and images

  • Assist in the continued development and refinement of BHC’s prefabrication systems to ensure efficiency, scalability, and quality.

  • Contribute to new initiatives, partnerships, and projects that drive BHC’s growth and evolution.


Responsibilities

  • Take initiative and actively manage the architectural needs of BHC, while collaborating closely with the Operations Lead and Project Manager to bring projects from concept to completion.

  • To manage and prioritize a wide variety of tasks, as well as estimate and follow through on timelines and deadlines.

  • Evaluate existing processes and systems and figure out ways for continual improvement.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.

  • Able to work with a dynamic small team and assist with tasks outside of the typical responsibilities of an Architectural Technologist.

  • Attend conferences and training to maintain proficiency or develop new skills.

  • Ensure that all project documentation and drawings are completed on time.

  • Work with and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors.


Skills and Experience

  • Team Player

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Bachelor's Degree or Technical Degree in Architecture

  • Minimum 2 Years of working experience as an Architectural Technologist

  • Experience in residential construction projects

  • Experience in managing feasibility, zoning, bylaw and building code assessments.

  • Advanced time management and analytical skills

  • Solid skills in: 

  • Revit  

  • AutoCAD

  • Sketchup

  • Adobe Suite

  • Google Suite (Gmail/Sheet/Doc)

  • Slack

  • Click-up

  • Bluebeam

  • Excellent client-facing communications 

  • Outstanding organization skills.


Organizational Relationship

The Architectural Technologist reports directly to the co-founders of The Backcountry Hut Company. They will also work with our partners at Leckie Studio Architecture + Design and the fabrication teams to progress each project to completion. 


Salary Range

$65,000-$75,000 + based on demonstrated experience and alignment.
